Tool Talk: What Winter Shows Us

Tool Talk @ Cannings - Winter has a way of showing us what needs to be done. Before spring check your tools - for arborists, landscapers and professional gardeners. Cannings

Winter puts much of the work in plain sight

Once the leaves are off and the landscape is stripped back, you can see the deadwood, crossing branches, uneven weight and the limb over the shed that everyone hoped would become someone else’s problem.

For arborists, winter offers a clearer view of structure and puts pruning, maintenance and removal work in plain sight.

For landscapers and garden crews, it means less mowing and more cutting back, clearing and getting ahead before spring arrives with speed and growth.

The landscape isn’t the only thing winter exposes

There’s the chainsaw that needs three pulls and a pep talk. The pruning saw that’s tearing more than it cuts. The secateurs that are now doing a better job as pliers.

Before spring turns up:

  • Check your chains, bars and blades.

  • Inspect your climbing and rigging gear.

  • Replace the pruning tools that are making the job harder than it should be.

  • And the mower and the rest of your power gear you promised you'd service before you needed them again? Deal with them now!

We all know Spring doesn’t knock. It turns up, grows everything at once and expects our power tools to start first go.
